The Dezhi Potable Blue Expansion Vessels are built from different materials than Red Heating Expansion Vessels to ensure that the water is contaminant free and safe for human consumption. The most common use for a blue expansion vessel in a potable application such as an Unvented Water Heater or a Pumped System. Expansion Vessels operate on the basis that the internal chamber is separated by a rubber membrane, inside this membrane sits the water and surrounding this sits a pocket of air. As the water inside the sealed system is pressurised, as water is non compressible, the air inside the air chamber of the Expansion Vessel will become compressed thus leaving the system safe from over pressurisation. Expansion Vessels are commonly used on pumped systems to remove the requirements of a continuous pump. This works as the user will set a low and high pressure on the pump settings, when the water pressure reaches the lowest setting the pump will engage and fill the Expansion Vessel to the high pressure point and stop. Once this cycle has been completed the Expansion Vessel puts the stored water under pressure ensuring higher pressure water. This will continue until the Expansion Vessels pressure drops to the lower point and the pump starts its cycle again.
All Water Dezhi Series expansion vessels are supplied with a replaceable membrane, which separates the water and air, to prevent contamination of the water system, corrosion of the expansion vessel or pressure loss in the water system.
The main purpose of an expansion vessel is to compensate for the increase in volume of water due to the varying water temperatures in hot water or heating systems. When water is heated it expands and as water is not compressible this increased volume will create a rise in pressure within the system. As an example, water being heated from 0°C-100°C will increase by approx 4.5%.
The expansion vessel allows for this extra space, as when water temperature increases the membrane inside the vessel inflates to allow the water to fill the vessel. The membrane will continue to expand until the system reaches its maximum temperature. Once this has been reached the membrane will be fully inflated and takes up the capacity of the vessel shell. Gradually the temperature will drop, which will in turn decrease the volume of water. Due to the pressure from the pressurised air surrounding the membrane, water will start to exit the vessel until the membrane is deflated.
The pressure vessel is designed to provide a storage facility and pressure reservoir for water. Common uses are in water booster sets, heating pressurisation and fill sets. Vessel's are supplied pre-charged, but the pressure may require adjustment to suit the site conditions. This adjustment must be made with the vessel isolated from the system, and before filling with water. All pressure vessels should be installed with an isolating valve and drain cock.

Regarding Installtion
The vessel is supplied pre-charged with air, but this pressure may require adjustment to suit the site conditions. This adjustment must be made with the vessel isolated from the system, and before filling with water. Air may be vented from, or pumped into, a patent valve which will be found under a black plastic screw-off cover on the shell (sizes up to and including 500 litre) or on a side mounted flange (750 and larger). It will be noted that vessels of 60 litre capacity or larger are manufactured with connections at either end of the vessel shell. The vessel should be mounted so that the system connection is made at the lowest possible point, to facilitate on-site maintenance. The other connection may be fitted either with a air bleed valve, or alternatively with a blanking plug. All pressure vessels should be installed with an isolating valve and drain cock.
Periodic Maintenance
The only maintenance required on this equipment is a periodic check on the air cushion pressure. It is necessary to isolate the vessel from the system, and to drain all water from the tank before making this measurement with a standard tyre pressure gauge from the valve.
